2 tone
Saturday, Dec. 12, 2009
These folks are making some very interesting music. A unique
sound. That endorsement from jazz legend Dave Brubeck identifies
the two reasons Cindy Horstman and Michael Medina are in demand
in North Texas and the Midwest. Interesting and unique
are perfect descriptions for the blend of Horstmans harp and
Medinas bass.
2 tone has reached out to all age groups with their interpretation
of jazz. 2 tones vibrant sound is a compelling partnering
of jazz, pop and Latin with new, innovative melodies and harmonies.
Their repertoire roams from Miles Davis and George Gershwin to Steely
Dan and Stevie Wonder.
Based in Dallas, Texas, 2 tone has been touring nationwide for
over 13 years performing for festivals, universities, and concert
series. The group has released eight CDs that are receiving radio
airplay across the country. 2 tone's performances display a tremendous
amount of skill and energy, evoking such audience responses as,
"You look like you're having such fun, and I am too!"
Harpist Horstman is a classically trained musician and holds a
Master of Music degree in Harp Performance from the University of
Texas at Austin. Cindy has earned many accolades including: 2005

Music Award - Jazz Division ASCA ; 1997-2005 Touring Artist - Texas
Commission on the Arts & Heartland Arts Fund; 1996-2004 Award

After her prize-winning performance in the Lyon Healy International

has played for many distinguished figures, including President Clinton
and Wynton Marsalis, who said, "You have a really cool sound."
Jazztime magazine called the group, "Uncommonly creative and
thoroughly enjoyable."
Bassist Medina, a native of Beeville, Texas moved to Dallas in
1978 and graduated from North Texas State University. Michael's
studio work includes national and local television and radio spots
as well as numerous recordings with various artists.
