Lyric Arts Trio
Veterans of the classical scene in Kansas City and the upper Midwest,
Lyric Arts Trio is a fresh and innovative chamber ensemble that
turns a unique blend of clarinet, piano and soprano voice into a
delight.
Coloratura soprano Sarah Tannehill is a vibrant young singer with
versatility and flare for both comedy and drama on the operatic
stage. She has performed leading operatic roles with the Boston
Lyric Opera, Opera Company of Philadelphia, Opera Omaha, Fort Worth
Opera, Opera Theatre of St. Louis, and the Saarländisches Staatstheatre
in Saarbrücken, Germany. Shortly after Sarahs move to
Kansas City in 2006, she received rave reviews for singing her first
Ophelia in Thomas Hamlet with the Kansas City Lyric, after
only a few hours notice.
Clarinetist Elena Lence Talley is a graduate with highest honors
from the University of North Texas. She performs frequently with
the Kansas City Symphony, where she is also music librarian. Talley
has also performed with the Lyric Opera Orchestra of Kansas City,
the Missouri Symphony, the Kansas City Camerata and the Kansas City
Chamber Orchestra. She has taught at Emporia State University and
Mid-America Nazarene University and is the founder of the Lyric
Arts Trio.
Pianist Daniel Velicer performs regularly with the Kansas City
Symphony, the Lyric Arts Trio, Kansas City Ballet outreach programs,
and is in constant demand as an accompanist and vocal coach. He
assisted in the preparation of soloists for performances with the
Kansas City Symphony, the Kansas City Ballet and the University
of Missouri at Kansas City for the nationally acclaimed Stravinsky
Festival. Velicer attended Cornell University, majoring in both
anthropology and music, and Rice University, where he received a
masters degree in piano chamber music and accompanying
Lyric Arts Trio's fresh approach to classical music results in
concerts crafted around a central theme. American Voices
is the program Lyric Arts Trio will bring to CTAC Live, with American
composers such as Aaron Copeland and Stephen F. Austin being featured.
It's a year-long celebration of the bicentennial of Abraham Lincoln's
birth.
Lyric Arts Trio has a wide and varied repertoire from Mozart to
exclusive commissions. Other concert themes are: "Hearts and
Flowers," which celebrates the beauty of love and the delights
of nature through the music of composers such as Debussy and Schubert;
, "A Shakespeare Festival," which highlights selections
from Leonard Bernstein's "West Side Story," a modern telling
of "Romeo and Julie"; and "Great Poets," finds
the trio marrying great music with the works of poets like Frost.

class for local students.
