CTAC's Arts Explosion is a week-long arts summer camp for students
who have completed third, fourth or fifth grades. This year's camp
is July 11-15, from 8:30 - 12:20. Drop-off is at 8:15, and pick-up
is no later than 12:30. There will be NO child care offered before
or after classes.
So that everyone may benefit from the Arts Explosion experience, discipline
problems will be addressed immediately and disruptive students may
be sent home with no refund.
There will be an art exhibit of finished projects and a performance
presentation, which will be held Friday July 15, beginning at 6:00
p.m. Enrollment is limited to the first 100 students who register.
Fees for Arts Explosion include class instruction and art supplies.
Registration before June 30 is $55.00 per student, and registration
after June 30 is $65.00 per student. First day (7/11) registration
is $75. The registration fee is non-refundable. T-Shirts are $10.
Registration is not considered to be complete until payment is
received or scholarship application is submitted with the registration
form. A limited number of scholarships are available to eligible
students, and applications are available upon request.

Participating Artists
KITE MAKING-
Dave Young became a kite enthusiast years ago when he and his son
purchased a kite kit. Dave has led several kite making workshops
over the years with the Edmond Parks and Recreation Department,
Duncans Elementary schools and the Memorial Day Weekend Kite
Enthusiasts Gathering in Junction, Texas. Dave joins AE again after
several years off and we are very excited to have him back. Daves
residency will guide the students through the kite construction
process and introducing them basic kite making and decoration as
well as the history of kites.
TIE DYE-
Dora Obuobisa is an inspiring artist with unique talents in leather
work, batik, tiedye, and traditional African crafts. She holds a
BA in painting, a postgraduate diploma and MA
in art education from the University of Science and Technology in
Ghana. She has worked as an art instructor in several Oklahoma City
Schools. She will lead the students in tie-dye design. We welcome
Dora back for her 5th year at AE and the creations her students
will unveil.
MONO PRINTING-
Melanie Twelves A Duncan resident that has a love and talent
for
visual art, primarily print media. She has 2 bachelor degrees, one
in medical technology
from Baylor and the other in art from USAO. She is nationally known
and has won many awards, been featured in University of Oklahoma
Journal and her work was selected for the cover art. Churches worldwide
have purchased crosses and triptychs, handmade or painted by Melanie.
This will be Ms. Melanies first Arts Explosion and we cannot
wait to see the wonderful art produced in her class.
Mono printing Students will combine printmaking,
painting and drawing mediums by using water paints on Plexiglas
which is then transfer paper for a unique translucence painting
on paper.
POTTERY -
Dan Hazel comes to Duncan for his 7th Arts Explosion experience
after great student reviews from last year. Dan earned his BA Ed
at USAO and his MA at Southwestern Oklahoma State University. He
is employed by Marlow Public Schools as the Art and Photography
teacher and has participated in numerous art shows and taken home
the top prize in many.
CTAC welcomes Dan back as our pottery instructor.
MOVEMENT-
Cheri Spurgin is a local dance teacher with a BA degree in Music
from Cameron University and a BS from USAO in Deaf Education. She
started dancing when she at 4 and continued through collage. She
has taught tap, Jazz, Modern and Hip hop for 5 years at Duncan Dance
Academy. We welcome Ms. Cheri to her first year at Arts Explosion.
Jazz- Students will study the more traditional style of
dance with an emphasis on technique and rhythm. They will learn
proper posture, core strength, and stretching that will encourage
them to continue exercising and build confidence. Movement
- A class the Explores many genera of dance as well as basic stretching
techniques. Through movement the students will learn how to express
themselves through dance.
